چکیده

Measuring QoS in the internet today is difficult as notions of what constitutes QoS vary. Service Level Agreements between customers and network service providers are often poorly defined. The most workable SLAs currently are defined in terms of how long packets may take to travel from some host to another host, and what acceptable levels of packet loss are. This paper presents a direct comparison of active Oneway-Delay measurements with an independent passive measurement system over an intercontinental distance. A high level of agreement was found between the active and passive systems in this study. It is hoped that this work will help researchers making active measurements to appreciate error contributions from end-point equipment when interpreting their results. Calibration and optimization of a low cost diffusion chamber for passive separated measurements of radon and thoron in soil by Lexan PC SSNTD

Background: Separate radon and thoron measurements in soil are very important in assessment of internal exposure due to inhalation of such radioactive gases. Materials and Methods: In this study, a low cost, small size, passive diffusion chamber has been developed for simple measurement of Radon-222 and Radon-220(Thoron) gases separately in soil. The diffusion chamber consists of two films and ...

Optimizing active and passive calibration of optical tweezers

To obtain quantitative information from optical trapping experiments it is essential to perform a precise force calibration. Therefore, sources of noise should be pinpointed and eliminated. Fourier analysis is routinely used to calibrate optical trapping assays because it is excellent for pinpointing high frequency noise. In addition, Allan variance analysis is particularly useful for quantifyi...

Comparative study on passive and active projector nonlinear gamma calibration

This paper compares the active and passive projector nonlinear gamma compensation methods for phase error reduction. The active method modifies fringe patterns before their projection to ensure sinusoidality; the passive method, in contrast, compensates for the phase error after capturing those distorted sinusoidal fringe patterns. Our study finds that the active method tends to provide more co...

Optimal integrated passive/active design of the suspension system using iteration on the Lyapunov equations

In this paper, an iterative technique is proposed to solve linear integrated active/passive design problems. The optimality of active and passive parts leads to the nonlinear algebraic Riccati equation due to the active parameters and some associated additional Lyapunov equations due to the passive parameters. Rather than the solution of the nonlinear algebraic Riccati equation, it is proposed ...
